Upgrade from Proficiency in Survival Craft Limited to Proficiency in Survival Craft satisfies the competency requirements as outlined in NVIC 04-14 (Ch-1) relating to the increase in scope of an endorsement from PSC Limited to PSC. The student will complete those assessments for PSC as noted in enclosure (2) to NVIC 04-14 (CH1) This course will also satisfy the training guidelines of Table A-VI/2-1 of the STCW Code, As Amended, for Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (PSC); and will satisfy the professional examination and practical demonstration requirements 46 CFR 12.407(b)(3) for any endorsement as Lifeboatman and PSC providing the student has a PSC (Limited) certificate.
The objective of this course is to satisfy the training requirements for an increase in scope of an endorsement from PSC (Limited) to PSC for students in the areas relevant to Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Other Than Fast Rescue Boats, and, in doing so, satisfy company, national and international regulations, and assessment guidelines as stated in Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping as amended section A-VI/2.
The syllabus covers the requirements of the STCW Code Section A-VI/2 Mandatory minimum requirements for the issue of certificates of proficiency in survival craft, rescue boats, and fast rescue boats and Table A-VI/2-1 Specification of the minimum standard of competence in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boat
Content This Upgrade PSC (Limited) to PSC is a 2-day course that provides students instruction in taking charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during and after launch. Students will demonstrate the ability to operate a survival craft engine, manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship and use locating devices including communication and signaling apparatuses in accordance with Section A-VI/2 of the STCW Code.
This course is both practical and theoretical, after the theoretical lessons conducted by following the practical applications of craft and their accessories. Instructors will provide the necessary theoretical and practical applications to perform and will oversee the entire progress of the exercise. Before making practical exercises, students should be familiar with specific equipment and facilities and means of rescue boats, with radio equipment and pyrotechnics used in case of emergency.
Outcomes Students who successfully complete Upgrade PSC (Limited) to PSC course will satisfy the competency requirements of Table A-VI/2-1 of the STCW Code, as amended 2017, for Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Other Than Fast Rescue Boats (PSC), provided that the applicant had previously been issued a Proficiency in Survival Craft (Limited) endorsement and will satisfy the professional examination and practical demonstration requirements of 46 CFR 12.407(b)(3) for endorsements for Lifeboatman and PSC.
